Project Description

At just above 8000 feet and a short distance outside of Steamboat a local rancher was conducting extensive rebuilding of his fence line on his 60,000 acre ranch. To assist in the future maintenance of the fence line a path along the fence was excavated to a width sufficient for a truck to travel. The fence line itself was constructed on a variety of slopes and then the cut and fill slopes created by the fencing further exacerbated the erosion potential from these sites due to the extreme gradients along with the natural terrain’s own erosion enhancing conditions like the steep grades, rocky poor soils, and slope aspects. Revegetation for long-term erosion control was definitely going to be needed and a challenge.
